***This review is not sponsored. Everything written is my own opinion, and if you are to use this product remember YMMV.
We all know that the key to a truly good makeup look starts with good skincare, however having some quality makeup products never hurts either. So, we thought it would be fun to share what our current favorite makeup products are and I, Sara, have decided to start us off. Now before we begin, I would just like to say that I am no makeup expert. Sure, I have tried my fair share of makeup products over the years, but I obviously haven’t tried everything and I am just now starting to try AB makeup. So, these products that I am sharing with you are just products that I have had good experiences with so far and continue to use regularly.
That being said, my ultimate goal in using makeup is to one day achieve that “no-makeup-makeup” look. My skincare goals center around the same idea as well. So you will notice that I mainly like makeup products that help me to achieve a “natural” look and sometimes allow me to spice it up when I feel more daring. I’ll take you through my favorite base makeup, and then my favorite eye and lip products.
I prefer to wear bb cream over foundation, as I find foundation usually clogs my pores and has little to no skincare benefits. My current two favorite bb creams are the Missha M Signature Real Complete BB Cream (shade no. 23) and the Klairs Illuminating Blemish Cream (only comes in one shade :/). I came across the Missha BB cream when Jess from at skinnandtonic (check out her instagram here!) sent it to us in her giveaway package that we won. I had never really considered giving this bb cream a try before, but thank the powers that be that Jess sent it to us. It has become a staple in my everyday routine and is perfect for when I need a little extra coverage. It stays all throughout the day without rubbing off or separating. Truly a great product! As for the Klairs bb cream, this one has many of the same attributes as the Missha one, but it has a lighter texture and works better on days when I don’t have much of a breakout. Both bb creams have not broken me out and match my skin tone well. For reference, my skin is oily, acne prone and both of these work well for me. I still need to occasionally blot my face throughout the day, but they definitely don’t increase my normal sebum production. I think it’s safe to say that these bb creams will work well with most skin types.
I always like to have a concealer on hand for those times when bb cream just isn’t cutting it and you really need to cover your eye bags from an all-nighter or a large, obnoxious pimple. The Saem Cover Perfection Tip Concealer (shade no. 1.5) has been the perfect multipurpose concealer and is easy to take on the go. The tube my look small, but you really only need the tiniest dab to cover blemishes. The coverage this concealer provides is INSANE and it stays all day. I have yet to find a better concealer, take this from someone that has tried over a dozen concealers, drugstore and high-end, and none of them even come close.
Additionally, I like to complete my base makeup by setting it all with a light powder. I’ve been testing out the Innisfree No-Sebum Blur Powder and have no complaints so far. A little goes a long way, and it doesn’t leave a white cast as it has a slight tan tint to it. It does a good job of giving my skin that blurred (hence the name) and matte-ish look, which I like as I do get oily throughout the day.
My basic eye look normally consists of a little eyeliner and mascara, and taming my brows. On days when I am in a rush or just want a simple look, I like to use the BareMinerals Lasting Line Long-Wearing Eyeliner in Eternal Bronze on my top lids only, one layer of the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara in Black on my lashes, and the Pixi Natural Brow Duo to shape my eyebrows. This makes it look like I actually tried to make myself look presentable, but really I only put in minimal effort.
On days when I have more time or I’m feeling bolder, I like to use my Tartelette Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette and I’M Meme I’m Eyeliner #EL01 Smoke Black to create a more exciting look. The Tartelette palette provides me with a beautiful collection of 12, highly-pigmented eyeshadows to play with. It’s a great palette for beginners, as I am a beginner and have been easily able to create some, of what I like to consider, good eye makeup looks. The colors are mainly neutral (I’ll post a picture below) but are stunning nonetheless. As for the I’M Meme eyeliner, I like to use this to create a more defined eyeliner look and so far it’s worked pretty well.
I usually like to keep my lip color pretty simple, so I like lip products that provide a bit of moisture and some slight color. I tend to avoid lipstick because I usually feel like it overwhelms my face and I tend to get it on everything. So, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect “lippie” and found what I was looking for in the Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly CC Tint Bars. They come in three colors, a red, orange, and pink, but I only own the red and orange ones. These lip tints are everything I could have hoped for. They provide just a touch of color and are super moisturizing. I highly recommend everyone give these a chance as they are perfect for on the go and still allow you to maintain that “natural” look.
I’ve really enjoyed using all of the products I have listed above and fully intend to use all of them until they run out. I will most likely purchase most of them again, or just in varying colors. I just want you to remember that because these products work for my particular needs, doesn’t mean that they will work for you. But if you would like to give any of them a shot, I say go for it! Half the fun of makeup is the experimentation process! If you want to know where you can find any of these products, I have listed the links below.
