As a person who suffers from frequent breakouts, I always need to keep my emergency acne care products on hand. I have come to rely on a handful of products that I trust to help me see the light at the end of the acne-prone tunnel. I thought I would share them with you, in caset you ‘d like to create an “Acne Care Emergency Kit” for yourself!

**I listed the products in my kit in the order in which I would place them in my routine**

#1) COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid

16-08-16-23-49-49-979_deco

Product Type: Active/Serum

Place in Routine: After my oil-based cleanser, water-based cleanser, and ph-adjusting toner. Apply over effected areas right after ph-adjusting toner and wait about 10 minutes until you apply your next product.

The Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid is a product I use about 4x a week, instead of just during emergencies. This is because it’s more of preventative measure that takes time to see results. For those who don’t know what a BHA is, it stands for Beta Hydroxy Acid and what it does is chemically exfoliate (not as scary as it sounds! I promise!) so that dead skin cells are removed, ultimately helping to prevent clogged pores. This product has been life changing for me, as it has completely transformed my skin. Acne has been a constant in my life for about 7 years and this is the only product that has proven time and time again to keep my acne at bay. If you are interested in using this product, I strongly warn you to take it slow. Introduce it into your routine about 1 to 2x a week and work your way up to what works for you. Rushing into using this product my cause your skin to purge or have a bad reaction, so please introduce this product slowly!

Ingredients List: Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid

Where to Buy: Jolse, Amazon, Memebox, SokoGlam, Cupidrop, Wishtrend, etc.

#2) COSRX Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol

16-08-16-23-48-58-686_deco

Product Type: Toner/ Spot Treatment

Place in Routine: I use this as an after actives toner (so after my Cosrx BHA). Use all over face or just effected areas.

The Cosrx Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol can be used as a toner or a spot treatment, but I find it most effective to use as a toner. The main ingredient in this product is Propolis Extract, which is know for helping calm inflammation. I suffer from very inflammatory acne, so this product does wonders for calming my pimples and in helping to clean any gunk off that my Cosrx BHA cleared out of my pores.

#3) Dear Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask

DK

Product Type: Sheet Mask/ Essence

Place in Routine: After oil-based cleanser, water-based cleanser, and toner (or after ph-adjusting toner, bha, and hyrdating toner).

The Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask is one of my all time favorite sheet masks. It is my go-to when my skin is at it’s worst and just needs to calm down. It’s not included in the main picture, because I recently ran out of my stash (a horrible tragedy that needs to be remedied). To put it simply, what is so great about these masks are that they never irritate my skin, are highly moisturizing, and always calm my inflammation significantly. If you are looking to give any sheet mask a try, I strongly encourage you try this one!

#4) COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream

16-08-16-23-50-48-633_deco

Product Type: Cream

Place in Routine: As the last moisturizing step in your routine.

The Cosrx Advanced Snail  92 All in one Cream is a rather simple cream that gets the job done. It is made of 92% snail mucin as the name suggests and not much else. This simple formula is so great because it allows your skin to really experience the healing powers of snail mucin. Snail mucin may sound gross to some, but it’s great for helping to repair damaged skin and is therefore a wonderful ingredient for those with acne-prone skin, because it helps to prevent and treat hyperpigmentation

Ingredients List: Cosrx Advanced Snail 92 All in one Cream

Where to Buy: Jolse, Amazon, Memebox, SokoGlam, Cupidrop, Wishtrend, etc.

#5) COSRX Centella Blemish Cream

16-08-16-23-44-48-782_deco

Product Type: Spot Treatment

Place in Routine: After last moisturizing step in routine. Apply to all effected areas.

The Cosrx Centella Blemish Cream is the gentlest and most-effective acne spot treatments in my kit. The highlighted ingredient in the cream, Centella Asiatica, is know for its calming properties and helping to heal acne, prevent hyperpigmentation, and heal exisiting pigmentation. This is cream is my miracle cream. It significantly diminishes the look of most of my pimples overnight and has been one of the key products helping to heal my acne scarring. If you are to try any of the spot treatments I am recommending, please try this one!

#6) 100% Pure Tea Tree Oil

**PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION FOR PROPER USE INSTRUCTIONS**

16-08-16-23-50-16-785_deco
The bottle I use to hold my Tea Tree Oil previously held the Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil formula, which is not 100% Tea Tree Oil.

Product Type: Spot Treatment

Place in Routine: After last moisturizing step in routine. Only apply to affected areas sparingly. DON’T combine with other spot treatments.

I have been using 100% Pure Tea Tree Oil since before my AB days and I still use it on occasion. Tea Tree Oil is known to help heal acne infections and has been very effective in getting rid of some of my most stubborn acne. However, using 100% Tea Tree Oil instead of a diluted version (mixed with other oils) can be dangerous. If you use more than the littlest amount on a pimple, it may end up over-drying or burning your skin. Tea Tree Oil is very potent, so I strongly suggest using it sparingly and only over small areas of your face. For those with sensitive skin, I suggest only using a diluted version (check out the Body Shops formula).

Where to Buy: Amazon for 100% Tea Tree Oil and The Body Shop for diluted Tea Tree Oil

#7) COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch

16-08-16-23-43-21-631_deco

Product Type: Spot Treatment

Place in Routine: After last moisturizing step, but make sure your cream or lotion is fully absorbed before applying a patch or it will not stick to skin.

The Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patches are a life saver when I have an under the skin pimple with no head. If your like me, and you suffer from under the skin acne you need these patches (or a similar acne patch, even though these are my favorite so far). These patches are Hydrocolloid Patches (same concept as blister patches), which draw out the pus from pimples and absorb it. So, they are perfect to use on those under the skin pimples, which you should ever pop because they will leave a scar if you try.

Final Thoughts:

My “Acne Care Emergency Kit” includes quite a lot of products that I find to be necessary to keep on hand, but it is important to note that I don’t normally use them all together in the same routine. It all depends on how severe my breakout is and what my current skincare needs are. So, don’t be overwhelmed and think, “Do I really need all of this?” because the answer is no. I am just the kind of person that likes to make sure I have all my bases covered and more. When you go to make your “Skin Emergency Kit” it may only include 2 to 3 products and that’s okay! It’s all about what works best for your skin and what you find necessary to keep around. My goal was only to help guide you in the right direction, so you can find what works best for you when suffering from a skin emergency!

If you have any favorite products that you always turn to in a crisis and would like to share them, please comment below! I would love to hear what works for you and check it out for myself!

    1. That’s an interesting article, thanks for the link! It’s always nice to see what other people are using. And I agree with you, BHA and creams or essences with snail mucin make a world of difference. My acne has cleared up so much from the use of chemical exfoliators and I couldn’t be happier with the results. As for the snail cream, it is definitely a major factor in helping reduce hyper-pigmentation and I think it’s great to use if you can, since some people are allergic to it. I’m glad to hear you are also seeing such great results 🙂
